However, there is no evidence to support that the Shake Weight is more effective than lifting a traditional dumbbell. The Shake Weight’s limited and unnatural range of motion can also put users at risk for injury2.

The Better Alternative

Instead of using a Shake Weight, consider buying a few traditional dumbbells for home use and complement your lifting with exercises that enhance and strengthen the upper body, such as planks, dips, and push-ups2.

4. Body Skin Wraps

Body Skin Wraps, a clay mask for your skin that claims to detox your body and help you lose weight by making you sweat and tightening your skin, can cause skin irritation and risk of dehydration. The appearance of looking firmer and skinnier is only temporary2.

The best way to look firmer and skinnier is to become firmer and skinnier through a proper diet and exercise routine2.

5. Sauna Suits

Sauna suits, a fad that helps you sweat more while exercising, can cause severe health hazards such as heat stroke and kidney failure. You sweat water, not fat, and at best, you’ll lose water weight. You are literally dehydrating your body and losing fluids in an unhealthy way2.

If you are in need of a good sweat, try a fast-paced class like spin or Zumba, a high-intensity routine in the gym or on the treadmill, or a good stretch in a hot, but controlled, environment like hot yoga2.
